Home Assistant 2025.7: News and Improvements for Your Smart Home

The June update Home Assistant 2025.6 brings a number of practical innovations and improvements that make management easier and expand the possibilities of your smart home. Here are the main changes in this version.

1. Conversational Assistant Can Ask Questions

The Conversational Assistant can now not only answer your questions but also actively ask you for more information. With the new “Ask Question” action, it can request clarification when you run an automation—like which music to play or which lamp to turn on. Your answers can be used in further automations and scenarios.

2. New Area Card

The Area Card has had a major facelift. It’s more modern, clearer, and offers more customization. You can choose which controls and devices are shown and easily switch between different room views.

3. Improved Area Dashboard

A new dashboard for managing individual rooms (Areas) has been added. You can quickly see the status of devices in a room, control them, and easily switch between different parts of your home.

4. Sub-entry Integrations

The new sub-entry system lets you add multiple items to integrations—like several AI agents to one account, multiple calendars, or add MQTT devices directly from the interface. This makes managing larger systems much easier.

5. New Integrations Page

The integrations overview page has been completely redesigned. Now you can better see which devices and services are linked to which integration, making everything clearer even for larger homes.

6.  Full-screen Code Editor

All code editors now support full-screen mode—just click the maximize button in the top right corner to get maximum editing space. This is especially useful for complex configurations or on smaller screens.

6.  Improved dashboard creation experience

The dialog for adding a new dashboard is now clearer, faster, and matches the look of the rest of the interface, so setting up a new dashboard is a breeze.

8. New Integrations

  • AltruistAir quality sensors
  • PlayStation NetworkGame and friends activity tracking
  • Tilt PiHome brewing monitoring (e.g., beer)
  • VegeHubGarden irrigation automation

9. Improvements to Existing Integrations

  • ESPHomeSupport for subdevices (e.g., RF bridge, Modbus gateway)
  • ReolinkNew camera features, including motion detection and smart notifications
  • HomeWizard, SmartThings, Russound RIO, Alexa Devices, MatterNew features and improved stability
  • Google Generative AIEnhanced AI automation capabilities

10. Other Improvements

  • Full-screen code editing mode – All YAML and template editors can now be expanded to full screen, which is especially useful on smaller monitors or tablets.
  • Easier dashboard creation – An improved wizard for creating new dashboards and a more modern interface.
  • Voice-controlled shopping list – You can now add items to your shopping list using voice commands.
  • Preservation of user customizations – When re-adding a device, your custom names and settings are retained.
  • Faster camera snapshots – Better performance and quicker loading of camera images.
  • New visual elements – For example, for wind direction sensors or displaying device status.

11. Changes Affecting Backward Compatibility

Some entities and actions have been renamed (Google Calendar, Meater, Miele, Plex Media Server). If you use custom automations, check and update them as needed.

Conclusion

Home Assistant 2025.7 is another step toward an even smarter and more convenient home. The new features make it easier to communicate with your system, control rooms, add more devices, and use new integrations. To enjoy all the new features, we recommend updating to the latest version.
