LinknLink iSG Box SE

LinknLink ISG SE Box: Home Assistant finally "Plug & Play"?

Update 16.12.2025: It was enough to install the iSG 20163_1212 update one more time, and everything started working perfectly on the first try. Home Assistant, Zigbee2MQTT, updates, and the installation of add-ons and applications.

Home Assistant is undoubtedly one of the most powerful tools for a smart home. It offers unlimited possibilities, but it has one major flaw: a high barrier to entry. For many users, the idea of installing Linux, flashing drives, and configuring MQTT is a nightmare.

However, a new product is coming to the market: the LinknLink ISG SE Box, which promises a revolution. The goal is clear – to bring the freedom of Home Assistant, but with the simplicity we are used to with Apple Home or Google Home.

As retailers who test the technology ourselves, we took a close look at this device. Is it really such a miracle, or does it have its flaws?

The end of complex installations?

If you've ever tried to get Home Assistant running on a Raspberry Pi or Mini PC, you know what it entails. You have to download the correct system image, create bootable media, install the system, deal with drivers for the Zigbee dongle, install an MQTT broker, and connect it all together. Fun for IT enthusiasts, a "stop sign" for the average user.

The LinknLink ISG SE Box is different. It is a Plug & Play solution. You unpack it, plug it in, and it works. The system is pre-installed and ready to use. The goal is for you to immediately start pairing devices and creating automations without having to write a single line of code in the terminal.

Key features that caught our eye

1. Zigbee without worries

In combination with the original Zigbee dongle from LinknLink, all complex setup (Zigbee2MQTT, etc.) is eliminated. Just enable pairing in the box interface, and devices are automatically populated into both the native box interface and directly into Home Assistant. It is fast and efficient.

2. Tuya devices: Locally and without the cloud!

This is perhaps the biggest "draw". The box can pair Tuya WiFi devices locally, even without needing a Tuya account or using their cloud.

  • Why is this important? Recently, there have been increasing cases where Tuya blocks devices due to missing manufacturer licenses. The user or seller often has no idea there is a problem until the device stops working.

  • With this box, you are independent. You don't need the cloud, you don't need to deal with licenses. (We wrote more about Tuya license issues in our previous article - link).

  • Note: We are still testing this feature intensively, as it is necessary for the connecting device to know the handshake style to pass WiFi credentials to connect the device to your network. Therefore, the connection is not completely automatic and universal.

3. Artificial Intelligence and TV box in one

LinknLink keeps up with the times and implements support for AI agents. Via API, you can connect OpenAI (ChatGPT), Gemini, or DeepSeek and control your home much more naturally. Additionally, the hardware is primarily built as an Android TV box, so it also serves as an entertainment center for your TV.

💡 Tips and practical recommendations

During testing, we encountered several things that you might not find in the manual, but are crucial for smooth operation:

  • Static IP address is essential: For the iSG Box to work reliably in the home network and maintain connections with integrations, we strongly recommend setting a static (fixed) IP address for it on your router.

  • Home Assistant vs. Native System: The box has its own interface which suffices for basic control – theoretically, you don't need to turn on Home Assistant at all. But if you are serious about automation, definitely switch to HA. The native system's capabilities are very limited compared to HA.

  • Pre-installed HACS: A huge plus for intermediate users! The popular community store (HACS) is already pre-installed here. You don't have to download anything via the terminal, and you have immediate access to thousands of custom integrations and visual elements.

  • Update delays: Be aware that Home Assistant core updates are approved and released by the manufacturer LinknLink here. They therefore arrive with a slight delay compared to official versions. This is the price for stability and a "managed" solution.

  • Connect a mouse! Although a remote control is included, configuring Home Assistant on a TV screen with it is suffering. We recommend connecting a standard USB mouse or a wireless keyboard with a touchpad. You will save yourself a lot of nerves.

  • Remote access: The device supports remote access, so you can control your home even when away, without having to deal with a public IP address or VPN.

What to watch out for (An honest view)

We wouldn't be us if we only praised the product. Although we are enthusiastic about the concept, we need to stay grounded.

  • Software is still being tuned: The firmware is not yet 100% polished (it is still a new product). We encountered minor bugs, and although the manufacturer releases fixes (the bug with non-functional HA is already resolved), you have to expect the system to mature on the fly.

  • Remote collision: Some users noted that the remote control for the box might "clash" with certain TV models.

  • Tuya compatibility: Local Tuya WiFi control is great, but it is not guaranteed for every smart plug or bulb you find at home.

  • Extremely slow updates/installation: In the latest firmware version (iSG 20163_1212), we experienced incredibly slow installation and updating of apps and add-ons. It looked more like the progress bar was stuck. Simply put, there is still work to be done.

Conclusion: Who is LinknLink for?

The LinknLink ISG SE Box is a bold step that opens the world of Home Assistant to the masses. If you want the freedom of HA and are attracted by pre-installed HACS or local Tuya, but are scared of Linux installation, this device is exactly for you.

Our recommendation: Be cautious. The device has huge potential and already offers unique features. However, back everything up regularly and expect the software to evolve further in the coming months.
